From 9 to 12 July 2022, HE Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, paid an official State visit to Eritrea at the request of HE Isaias Afwerki, President of the State of Eritrea.

The visit highlighted the longstanding ties of kinship and solidarity between the peoples of Somalia and Eritrea.

President Hassan Sheikh visited development projects in the Southern and Red Sea regions of Eritrea during his visit, accompanied by President Isaias, with a focus on water security and management , agriculture, dairy production, green energy and infrastructure development.

President Hassan Sheikh’s visit to Somali National Army soldiers receiving military training in Eritrea was a highlight of his visit.

He thanked them for their training, briefed them on Somalia’s enormous potential and key priorities, and expressed his confidence that they would contribute significantly to the peace, security and prosperity of their country. in his speech to the trainees.

The state of their respective nations, bilateral relations and regional issues were the subject of long friendly discussions between President Isaias and his brother, President Hassan Sheikh.

The two leaders decided to increase political, diplomatic, security, economic, social and cultural cooperation between Eritrea and Somalia in the light of their common convictions.

Furthermore, Presidents Isaias and Hassan Sheikh agreed that Eritrea and Somalia would cooperate to promote harmony, coexistence and regional economic integration in the Horn of Africa.

The two presidents signed a memorandum of understanding between Eritrea and Somalia at the end of the visit.

President Isaias expressed the sincere gratitude of his brother, President Hassan Sheikh, for his timely and meaningful visit on behalf of the people and government of Eritrea.
