As the first Somali Ambassador to reopen the embassy in that country after the fall of the central government in 1991, HE Mohamed Abdullahi Ahmed presented his credentials to the President of the Republic of Serbia, HE Aleksandar Vui on June 22, 2022.

Through collaboration with Ambassador HE Mohamed, President Vui said he was delighted with the long-standing and friendly ties between the two nations.

He pointed out that the two nations’ diplomatic relations, which date back to the days of the former Yugoslavia and joining the Non-Aligned Movement, were formed sixty-two years ago and are respected and nurtured. by both.

According to President Vui, strengthening cooperation with the African Union Commission is one of the main priorities of Serbia’s foreign policy.

President Vui urged HE Ambassador Mohamed to thank the Somali leadership for recognizing Serbia’s views and supporting the territorial integrity and sovereignty of our nation.

Serbia will support the unity of the Federal Republic of Somalia, as well as its territorial integrity and sovereignty, he said.

According to him, one of the main objectives of Ambassador Mohamed’s diplomatic mission in Serbia is to promote bilateral political, economic and security cooperation as well as to increase trade and investment between the two nations.

President Vui reminded the Ambassador of the visit of the Serbian Foreign Minister to Somalia on May 22, 2019 and the common will of the meeting to restore the cordial ties between the two nations that date back to their close collaboration in the Movement of not aligned.

The officials highlighted mutual readiness for the restoration of the two countries’ historic friendship from 1960 during the minister’s talks with Somali leaders and separate talks with Somalia’s prime minister and foreign minister.

Since September 19, 2021, Mohamed Abdullahi has been Chargé d’Affaires at the Embassy of Somalia in Belgrade, Serbia.
